The regeneration of the site started nine years ago by dredging out the old line
of the Aire and Calder navigation at Whitwood Wharf. The site is between two locks,
one filled in, on the site of the old coal wharf. Now the Wharf is the furthest inland
that sand and gravel are brought by water from the sea via the Humber estuary at
Goole on large commercial barges to Lafarge Wharf which sits on the corner to our
entrance. Fairies Hill Moorings Limited took over the lease of the mooring site in
2010 from British waterways, a new era has started. The entrance lock to the moorings
was replaced in 2007 by BW, the rest of the site is undergoing a major make over
by Fairies Hill Moorings Ltd.
